ITV Player, online evolve into ITV Hub

In a move that reveals a lot about its long-term strategy for digital, the UK's leading independent broadcaster ITV has refreshed its online and catch-up services.


Digital and interactive have been consistent performers for ITV of late, and in the last financial report for the first half of 2015, the company's online, pay and interactive division swelled revenue by 27% to £85 million while broadcast and online adjusted EBITA was £315 million up 26% year-on-year.

In the refresh, ITV will discontinue the much-criticised ITV player and the video offering at ITV.com with a single offering known as ITV Hub which is set for launch by the end of 2015. ITV stresses that live TV — from the likes of ITV 1, ITV 2, ITV 3 and CITV — will be at the core of the offering, claiming that 30% of its online usage across PC and mobile comes from viewers watching live streams rather than catch-up content. The ITV Hub will be available across a range of connected devices and the Freeview Play platform.
