PAAI started Development of Shillon

PAAI started Development of Shillong way back of 2010. The plan was to make a suitable for Airbus 320/321 operation this require extension of runway from 1600 ft. to 7500 ft, extension of apron to accommodation for Aircraft, installation of ILS etc.For this the land was 8192 acres.State Govt. has acquired and handed over 192 acres land in December 2010.
AAI planned a development works in two phases:-
Phase 1 consisting and up gradation of safety and security infrastructure.
Phase 2 the installation of runway and apron installation of ILS and other allied works the project at Shillong are being taken up with the financial support of NEC since it is not financially viable.
Accordingly, the DPR for the phase 1 works bare submitted to NEC and got approved in Feb 2013. AAI had taken up the construction of compound wall with full earnest- the tenders work call – work awarded on – i.e. without fund getting the possession of land sanctioned from NEC. However, the work was stopped by local villagers on the issues of nonpayment and compensation from 2012 onwards.
AAI had tried to resolute the issue through the direct level of State Govt. Finally, stopped the work and the work was for elapsed.
DPR for phase 2 work were submitted to NEC for fund submission in November 2011. Again, a revised DPR was submitted to NEC in June 2014.
AAI had taken up installation of ILS which is a period of phase 2 work with full earnest. The equipment was purchased and is available in the stores from…….
Since the compound wall work not completed, the installation of ILS was not revised and not taken place. Now, after our starting of the compound wall work related with installation of ILS has been started. It is planned to the infrastructure required for ILS commissioned by 31st Aug 2016.
The extension of runway, apron and allied works is a major project with long gestation period.
For similar works at other airports normally it takes 1 ½ and 2 years. AAI has requested NEC to expedite the fund sanction for this project at the earliest. Without waiting for this, AAI had already started the process of tender preparation.
Considering the local in clamant climate for doing these types of work more time has technically. However AAI has made all efforts to take up the project with full esteem so as to complete by 28th September…………
